In Memory of Professor Benő Csapó

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Benő Csapó, a longstanding and active member of the EARLI community, who passed away on June 26, 2023 after a motorcycle accident abroad.

Professor Csapó served as a member of the EARLI Executive Committee between 1997 - 2001. He also hosted the 2007 EARLI Conference in Budapest, Hungary, where he acted as the Conference President.

Professor Csapó was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Szeged in Hungary, where he had also assumed several important positions. Most recently he was the leader of the Research Programme for Public Education Development and the chair of the Presidential Committee on Public Education of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was the winner of Hungary’s Prima Primissima Prize in 2015 and a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 2022 he became a fellow of the International Academy of Education.
